Understanding Your Child as a Developing Reader

Wednesday 10 June 6 – 7.30pm

Murray Gadd is an independent literacy consultant, and former Heretaunga Intermediate pupil, now working nationally and internationally on literacy issues, particularly reading and writing.  For the Ministry of Education, he led the team that developed the national writing exemplars, he wrote Effective Literacy Practice in Years 5 to 8 and he worked closely on the English sections of the New Zealand Curriculum.  He also recently completed his P.H.D in the area of Literacy.

We have been very fortunate to have Murray working with our staff and students this year, and Murray has offered his time to speak to parents and whanau.

Murray will be sharing his knowledge and expertise for parents to understand:

  • What good reading by children looks like
  • How children learn to read
  • What children do at school to become good readers
  • What you can do to help your children as developing readers.

Our Cuisine Team will be providing nibbles and refreshments for adults during the evening.  Should childcare be an issue, we will have classrooms open with staff looking after your child and their younger siblings.  Your child is also welcome to listen to Murray.

Contact the school office if you would like to attend.
